Origami Birds and Cherry Blossoms
By: Kay Hirai  -  2/18/2012

There is something healing about making things with your hands.......

Almost a year ago, Japan experienced the devastating effects of earthquake and tsunami of unthinkable magnitude……one of the most debilitating natural disasters in Japan’s history.  We have not forgotten the people of that area who continue to rebuild their lives.   We at Studio 904 would like to invite you to join us in making origami birds and cherry blossoms that we intend to display with reverence...   We hope you will take the time to join us to reflect on that day….March 11, 2011….the day that changed the lives of so many.

When: February 22 (Wednesday) Noon – 4pm
Where:  Studio 904, Mercer Island
(206) 232-3393

Please feel free to drop in anytime during these hours and enjoy tea and Japanese confectioneries with us!  You are welcome to make as few or many items as you like.  Or, just stop by to lend your presence.    We’d love to see you!

I Love Paper Dolls!
By: Kay Hirai  -  1/19/2012

One of my favorite childhood past times was to create paper dolls by drawing girls faces and creating dresses for them. I would cut and paste colorful papers to give each of the paper dolls her own creative expression. To begin the New Year, I decided to push myself to recreate paper dolls again. These dolls were created from my imagination, inspired by my visit to the city of Harajuku in Japan four years ago. I was inspired by the imaginative costumes the Japanese teen agers wore with their brightly colored hair, make-up and ridiculously high shoes. I call these dolls my own version of the Harajuku Girls.

Then I decided .... I want to inspire others and help them to bring out their artistic imagination by showing them how to make these "cool" paper dolls. My upcoming classes at Impress Rubber Stamp Stores will do just that!

Three Girls Paper Dolls

How long has it been since you made paper dolls?

How long has it been since you had fun playing with art?

Here is a paper doll crafting class with a modern twist made from Kays own drawings.  Each doll has her own  personality and wears  a  designer

dress and a hair color to express their creativity.  You can hang them or mount them so they can be enjoyed every day!

Class fee: $42

Please bring your own detail scissors
